It’s that time of year again! The kids are back in school; the weather is cooling down and the nights are getting darker. Is it just me, or have the lazy days of summer left you with a deluded sense of calm and lack of routine that now you’re scrambling around like a lunatic getting back into your old habits that took months to perfect and only weeks into the summer vacation to completely fall apart?!
As a busy working mother of 4 great kids (1 married and a senior at BYU, 1 a freshman at Dixie State University, and two boys in 8th and 9th grade) I’m constantly looking for ways to make life easier, keep the peace, and give myself a little sanity! Thank goodness for Diet Pepsi and chocolate.
Early mornings, school runs, busy schedules, homework, fixing dinner, and the best part is getting my boys to do the dishes -Ugh!! It’s always so much easier when I do them myself, but I wouldn’t be doing them any favors in the long run, right? At least, I keep telling myself that…
It’s a never-ending cycle of procrastination, arguing over who’s turn it is (even though we have a chart) and slopping through what should only be a 10-minute job! I find myself wiping down counters, sweeping floors, and wait for it…. making sure they wiped out the sink and turned on the disposal!
How is that so hard?! I came across a fantastic recipe for homemade disposal deodorizers made with aromatherapy oils.
It’s so simple to make the all natural, highly effective, delicious smelling, you-should-be-able-to-eat-it (but don’t) disposal deodorizer. Plus, getting my boys to drop a couple down the disposal after they do the dishes takes at least one chore away from me and leaves my kitchen smelling fresh every time!
We may not have it all figured out, but we don’t have a stinky sink… and I’d call that a win!
Follow these simple instructions to make a delicious batch for yourself!
Ingredients:
- 2 C baking soda
- 1 C of salt
- 1/2 C water
- 1/3 C liquid Castile soap (unscented)
- 30 drops of lemon essential oil (any brand)
Directions:
- Combine baking soda and salt into medium size mixing bowl
- Add Castile soap and mix together
- Add water and mix well (should be the consistency of wet sand). Keep back a tablespoon of water and add the essential oil into the water. Drizzle over the mixture
- Using a tablespoon measuring device, scoop packed spoonful’s onto parchment paper
- Let set for 24 hrs or until hard
- Drop 2-3 into your disposal as needed for a clean and fresh sink
